The PANTONE® Matching System (PMS) is the dominant “Spot” color printing system in the USA. Each spot color in the Pantone system is assigned a name or a number. Each PMS color has a specific mix of ink to achieve the color needed. A PMS ink mix often costs more than a 4 color process ink mix because of the additional set up and wash up factors. Remember, what you see on the screen is simply a simulation of the printed color. To insure the most accurate color, you should use a Pantone swatch guide book to find the right ink color number for your project. Pantone swatch books — printed samples of ink - come in coated, uncoated, and matte finishes. You should use these swatch books or color guides to find the desired spot color for the type of paper used in your project.
